Movies That Matter

April 6 @ 6:00 pm

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

This is the film that should have won Best Picture. A human drama with outstanding performances all around, and a story that examines the depth of our inconsistencies..
I rate Three Billboards as my favorite film of the year to two interlocking reasons: the story and the acting.
The story is, to me a masterpiece. It follows a mother (McDorman, Oscar for Best Actress) trying to force the local cops (Rockwell, Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Harrelson) into working harder to get justice for her daughter. It seems clear who is “on the side of the angels.” Problem is, nobody is perfect. And nobody is beyond redemption (maybe.)
If you want a story with an obvious moral, watch a Hallmark film on TV. If you want to have your assumptions challenged, come see Three Billboards with is.

Oscars for Frances McDorman and Sam Rockwell and Best Original Screenplay. Nomination for Woody Harrelson.
