What does it take to make a pessimist happy?

I’ll have some thoughts on pessimism and the role it plays in our lives. The band will set an appropriate mood with Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark”. Warren Zevon’s “Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me”, and, from way back, Tennessee Ernie’s “Sixteen Tons”. We’ll have a chance to discuss the ideas as the band moves us on to “Deep Blue Sea” and “Keep on Simlin’”

Pessimism was never so much fun.

Come by a few minutes early for the Abundance Circle. Gwendolyn will lead us in overcoming the block, “Counting on Success in Not Safe”. In just 10 minutes you’ll have a technique to change you attitude toward success.

You can stay for the Health Circle where Penny will show us how to turn the defining moments in our lives into a story to tell, a speech to give, or a book to publish.

We put so much importance on what we believe. But I would say that what we believe is not nearly as important as the fact that we believe in something.

This week Rado has written a new song for us, “Believe”. Here’s a sample. I’ll have some reflections on the beliefs, and the part they play in our spiritual — and practical — lives. Then, we’ll have a chance to hear your ideas, along with anyone else’s. Come on by on Sunday for 60 minutes of inspiration, music, and joy.

Being Stingy Is a Good Thing?

Yes it is, more often than we realize.

We all want to be helpful and constructive, but sometimes the resulting actions can cause more harm than good.

I’ll have some thoughts on when these impulses are best ignored and why. You may be surprised with what I have in mind.

Join the conversation Sunday starting at 11:00. The Joyful Harmony band will spice things up with their music, and we’ll also have some quiet, contemplative time.

You can start with the Abundance Circle at 10:45, with Penny leading us through the block, “Fear of Novelty”, into being open to trying new experiences.

After the noontime refreshments, join the Wisdom Circle, where we will sit together to discuss the various ideas that have come up in the past few weeks.

Tom Hanks is the marque name, and Max von Sydow was nominated for an Oscar, but it is young Thomas Horn who carries this story of a young boy trying to follow the advice of his father, who was killed in 9/11. His performance and the moving story are the primary reasons Extremely was nominated the Oscar for Best Picture.

The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep won the Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, the first female prime minister of Britain, who forever changed the role of women in politics. The film concentrates on her later years, revealing the singular effects that Thatcher’s decisions and her personality had, not only on Britain, but on world politics. I was pleasantly surprised that the film shows not only her achievements, but also how her personal blind spots led to failure on some fronts.
